WEEK 6: Still Life with Shadows

Now that everyone has been getting more familiar with contour and value drawings, we through shadows and lighting into the mix. Shadows are not very hard to see where they go and how to use them, but rather harder when actually going to find the right color and weight and technique to draw it. It was a lot harder than it looked and even if the shadows drawn are not very good they still help in defining light sources and making a drawing look more realistic. Shadowing can be very helpful to our rendered drawings for this major. When presenting an idea to a client, it is nice to be able to point out where the light sources are, and how things will be placed in a space due to lighting, as well as how things might look when light is shining on them. I thought that the class as a whole will need more practice on shadows, it is a difficult concept to capture in a drawing effectively, and it is important to have correct shadowing.
